Baron and Baroness (Shaikh and Shaikha) of Castel Rouge

The Baron and Baroness lead by example, presenting themselves as living representations of the Barony.  They will generally strive to look regal in public, wearing the coronets of the Barony and providing a Ceremonial focus.

They also serve as all around ‘cheer-leaders’, supporting and motivating members of the populace into the best people they can be. Sometimes this can take the form of general encouragement, but can also include making introductions to other people who share interests.

The Baron and Baroness have two primary responsibilities.  First, they act as local representatives for the Crown of Northshield, reporting and liaising to ensure the Barony forms a unified part of the Kingdom.  Second, they provide Baronial acknowledgement to the local populace for their achievements and actions, creating and handing out Awards or other commendation for various activities, drawing attention to the many good deeds that makes the Barony a fun place to live.   Generally, they provide this recognition through holding Court.

Baronial Officers

Our Society is built on the ideals of chivalry and courtesy, but runs on the concept of service. Without cooks, marshals, teachers, tent-raisers, hall-decorators and so forth, no one would get to enjoy any of the activities we have come to know and love. The opportunities for service are practically limitless and the best part is, when everyone gives a little, nobody has to give a lot!

Officers in the Barony help to coordinate and manage activities within the group.  This ensures that our activities and behind-the-scenes logistics are arranged so that we have a hobby to enjoy.
Generally, any current paying member over the age of 18 can serve as an Officer.   Vacancies are advertised, from time to time, via our Social media and mailing lists.

Officers also serve as a first point of contact for people with inquiries about their focus or interests.  They also coordinate our volunteers.

This office has one main purpose: welcoming newcomers to the Current Middle Ages. It is primarily the office designated to coordinate the education and orientation of new members. Ideally, all of the local group’s members should play a role in seeking out new people and welcoming them, consistent with the SCA’s ideals of courtesy.  As many SCA members are occasionally preoccupied with other activities, such as martial arts or hosting an event, most groups designate a Chatelaine to serve as their hospitality representative.
